Micro needling is a modern innovation in cosmetic treatments. It works by injecting needles into deeper layers of the skin, creating trauma to stimulate new collagen and elastin. Igniting the skins natural inflammatory process to start repairing, healing scars and plumping out lines and wrinkles.

What to expect during the treatment

  • Area being treated will be thoroughly cleansed twice prior to treatment
  • A topical aesthetic cream will be applied to reduce discomfort during the procedure
  • Certain areas of the face can be more sensitive therefore different needle lengths will be used during the procedure(usually above the top-lip and around the eyes) can be quite uncomfortable. 

Aftercare

  • Application of a cream to soothe and calm the skin
  • A broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of at least SPF30 will be applied and given to use twice a day for two weeks
  • Not to apply make up for 12 hours post procedure
  • To use clean hands and tepid water when cleansing treated area for next 48hours

Common side effects

  • Red with mild swelling/ warmth
  • Skin may feel tight and sensitive to touch
  • These symptoms will diminish significantly within a few hours
  • May take 2-3 days to completely resolve
  • Bruising can occur but infrequently
  • Can trigger the development of cold sores if previously experienced.  Medication or cream can be administered to reduce this undesired effect.
  • As the skin starts to regenerate and repair it may feel drier than normal, application of a moisturisers is recommended

Contraindications to treatment

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infection/ active acne
  • If you are taking medicines which affect bleeding such as warfarin, heparin & aspirin as increases risk of bleeding and bruising
  • Or have an auto-immune disorder such as diabetes
  • If you have a bleeding disorder
  • Skin cancer
  • Sunburnt skin
  • Vascular lesions (haemangiomas
  • Recent chemical peel
  • Keloid/hypertrophic scaring
  • Chemotherapy or radiation
  • Recent use of some topical creams such as Retinol A
